Dental Crowns in Gainesville
Providing Aesthetics & Structure for Your Teeth
A dental crown is a covering that is placed over the entire surface of the tooth. They are sometimes called caps because they are on top of your regular tooth structure. In addition to helping restore a tooth’s functionality, crowns also improve shape and appearance. Unlike other dental restorations, crowns also protect and strengthen the tooth’s structure. Our cosmetic dentists, serving Gainesville and Braselton, can provide you with the help you need placing your crown.
There are several different types of crowns; however, porcelain is generally the preferred type due to its color resemblance to a natural tooth. In fact, porcelain crowns are matched to the specific shape, color, size, and appearance of a person’s surrounding teeth. The resilient structure of crowns makes them a long-term solution for many patients, though repairs and possible replacement may be needed.
Our dentists may choose dental crowns for our patients to:
- Protect decayed teeth
- Support current tooth structure
- Improve smile appearance
- Repair fractured or broken teeth
- Protect a tooth with a root canal
- Correct oversized or cracked fillings
The Dental Crown Process
Replacing a crown typically involves two appointments. During the first visit, impressions will be taken and used to design a custom crown. A temporary crown will be issued to the patient for an approximate two weeks until the dental laboratory creates the new permanent crown. The temporary crown will be placed once the surface is cleaned and any decay is removed.
At the second visit, the temporary crown will be removed and the new crown will be positioned. Once the crown is carefully situated, your dentist will check for correct placement to guarantee accurate spacing and bite. To assure the crown’s success, we encourage patients to follow our care instructions and schedule dentist appointments regularly.
